What is Somatic Antiracism?

Somatic antiracism is a body based approach to listen to, make space for, and process the trauma of white body supremacy. This allows us to grow both our nervous system capacity and find the flexible resilience that is required to fully show up for ourselves and our community.

What is white body supremacy?

White body supremacy is the lie that white bodies simply have more worth than other bodies. Are you already noticing some activation of your system, a move to defensiveness, a tension locking down somewhere? That’s your body letting you know it’s holding onto something that needs tending.

White body supremacy is so deeply ingrained that if white folks continue to move about their daily lives without change, systemic racism will still continue. This is a product of generations of unaddressed trauma patterning. The collective bodily responses of this trauma breaks connection and keeps us feeling helpless.

Reparation begins with re-embodiment and individual healing. We practice feeling into these places of wounding within ourselves inside a group container. It involves us sitting with our discomfort, a little at a time, with the goal of stretching our nervous system’s capacity. Repeating this process regularly and over time builds resilience and regulation.

Through group exploration, we can contain and practice these tools in a way that allows us to stretch while also staying safe in a learning environment. Join us.

While this group primarily focuses on unraveling trauma responses through the lens of antiracism and being witnessed in community, this work will also open the door to heal other wounds of colonialism, making space to return to wisdom and a more balanced perspective.

Group Somatic Antiracism Practice

Inspired by the work of Resmaa Menakem, this is a process of simultaneously dismantling a culture while rebuilding a new one. To learn more about somatic abolition, I highly recommend beginning by reading My Grandmother’s Hands, visiting Resmaa’s website, and taking the free course available. If this work feels heart centered and resonant, I would love to meet with you as you are able and together we can explore what a future of freedom for all actually looks and feels like.
